on the mend

Little man is feeling better already! He struggled for two long nights and two slow days, but he slept well last night and is frisky today. Praise God that the cold is taking a speedy course! :)

Blow...

This is our day, written to the tune of "Someone's in the Kitchen with Dinah." :)

Something's going on with Collin.
Something's going on I know-oh-oh.
Something's going on with Collin... giving him a runny nose.
Collin won't you blow?
Collin won't you blow?
Collin won't you blow your no-o-ose?
Collin won't you blow?
Collin won't you blow?
Collin won't you blow your nose?
Little man has his first cold. Considering how little sleep he got last night, we're lucky he's pretty much his sweet and happy self between sneezes and nose wipings. Say a prayer for us anyways, would you please?

Splash Park!

We took Collin to the Splash Park today. He really didn't enjoy the water, but he looked cute and got to spend the whole afternoon with his daddy, so the event was a success! :)
We really didn't put Collin in the water but tried to stand close enough to get a little splash. He didn't cry, but his "ehh..." was the indication that he would rather not get wet. video

For today, he was happy to sit on the bench and watch the big kids run through the water. :)

6 months!

Collin Cooper is already half a year old!!! Check out our big man:
As usual, let's talk about some of Collin's favorite things at the ripe old age of 6 months...

Collin's favorite toy at the moment is Wubba. It's a plush little bear attached to a pacifier, and the size and shape makes it easy for Collin to find Wubba and put it into his mouth.
Other favorite toys this month include his jumper, peacock, links, and his puppies Shelby and Kacy. In the past month Collin has learned to use basically all the toys on his jumper, how to grab onto a toy and pull to spin himself around in the swiveling jumper seat, and especially how to push the buttons to make music. He likes the peacock because it has a handle that's easy to grab and the feathers make a crinkly noise. The links are easy to hold and nice to chew on. It seems like he likes the girls because they're a moving target. He squeals with excitement as he reaches forward to pet them! :)

Our little guy seems to be pretty organized! We'll start him with a stack of several toys spread all around him on the floor or the couch. As Collin plays with the toys, he will stack them all on one side of him. :)

Collin has had a very busy month of activity! This month we went to 8 parks (!) and tried out the swings at every one. :-)

Collin spent a week in South Dakota, a day in Denver, and he enjoyed Baby Story Time at the library. He spends time every day in his backyard enjoying the grass, the breeze, the movement of leaves, and airplanes flying overhead. Collin has to take a bath every night to wash the day's dirt off!
As you can see, Collin is still growing! He has fruits or veggies twice a day now, but surely he wouldn't turn down a third serving. :) We're taking it slowly with introducing new foods. This month Collin tolerated avocado but loved pears and peaches!

New skills this month are plentiful too! Collin is a very steady sitter and basically only tips over when he does it on purpose. He leans all the way forward to grab something in front of him and has learned to tip sideways onto his tummy to reach for something beside him. While on his belly, he scoots forward to grab toys in front of him. There's a theme to these skills - grabbing. Wherever Collin is, the wheels are always turning as he assesses his surroundings to figure out what is within his reach!
Collin now rolls from belly to back, as well as back to belly. He enjoys being on his tummy most when he gets there himself! :) He says "ma-ma-ma" and gives high fives to Daddy. He smiles or laughs at everyone who speaks to him, which helps us to make friends wherever we go. :)

Not on the typical list of milestones, but an important skill nonetheless, Collin has learned this month to sleep through pretty intense disruptions. We've been installing hickory flooring on our main level while Collin has maintained his usual schedule. This means he naps through the sounds of the air compressor, hammers, the nailer, and whatever other construction noises that are a part of the project. The ability to sleep through sounds is something that will serve him well for a lifetime. :)

This month has been so fun as Collin's world has opened up wide! He's a busy boy with lots to do. He doesn't keep his excitement a secret (he squeals, swings his arms, and kicks his feet when he's happy) and there are so many things in our day that get Collin going. :)

We are so in love with this little guy and we're looking forward to what the next month brings! :)

Still Trying to Roll Over...

Collin is still thisclose to rolling from his back to his belly.

"Ok Mom, are you watching?"
"Yeah Mom, that seems like a better angle for taking my picture!"
"Hmm. I can get this far without expending any real effort."
"I just need a little more oomph to get over my arm..."
"Mom, any suggestions for how I can make this easier?"

Watching Airplanes

We live 12 miles north of the airport and planes fly over our neighborhood several times a day. Collin has heard the planes often, but just identified where the sound was coming from while we were out in the yard last night. Today we went outside to wait for a plane to fly overhead.
"Mom, we've been waiting forever. Are you sure a plane is coming?""Look! A plane!"Finally Collin decided to oh-so-calmly say, "Mom, I'm done. May I please go inside now?" :)

Another Gorgeous Colorado Day!

Collin and I spent some time in the backyard with the pooches today. I can't believe how grown up he looks in this picture.

As usual, Kacy wanted to be right by Collin. She's the smart girl who hangs out in the shade.

And Shelby? She's the one who likes to bake in the sun.

I was messing around with different angles for pictures. This is Collin's "stink face."

This is a little closer to what I was trying for.

He has the cutest little legs... :)
