sunshine before the rain

We spent three hours outside this morning, walking around town and visiting three different parks.  We were glad to soak up the sunshine before it poured all afternoon!

Collin got to watch the guys get this fountain setup yesterday, and he was happy to revisit again today.

He's getting brave about climbing by himself.

After all the rain we've had in the past couple weeks, the creek is churning in most places we see it.  Collin always says "No swim in creek!" when he sees it, because it's pretty scary looking.  However, we found a calm spot and checked it out.

He decided he might as well put those tootsies in!

And hands too.

Summertime, we love you!

another day, another microphone

Landscaping lights worked as a perfect guitar and microphone for Collin the other day.

Dude likes to sing!

yard work

In case it hasn't been made clear yet, Collin really loves his tractor.

He's always willing to help with yardwork, too.

Every time he and Papa crossed paths with their tractors, he'd wave and yell "HI PAPA!" at the top of his lungs.

Of course, hard work requires breaks too. :-)

28 months

This handsome dude is 28 months old today!

Collin is still holding steady at 28 pounds and he's probably 35 inches tall.  He is still a peanut, but pretty savvy about using what he has to get what he needs. :-)  He climbs up and down the stairs upright without holding anyone's hand, and only using the railing if he feels like it.  He runs everywhere he goes, and gets quite a kick out of testing the limits of his physical skills.

Summer is finally here, and this kid loves it!  Playing at the park, walking (riding in his stroller) around town, playing in the yard, playing with friends, splashing in water, digging in mud or dirt, and driving his tractor are all fun outdoor activities.  With as much time as we've been spending outside getting dirty, bathtime every night is essential!

One of the parks in town was just completely redone, and it's perfect for the 2-5 year old crowd.  It's challenging enough that Collin likes help for many of the obstacles, but small enough that he can do most things on his own.  He's an interesting mix of brave and cautious, depending on the circumstance. He's definitely getting more confident though!

This particular day, Collin was sweaty from running and playing so hard, so he decided to take a break in the shade.

And it lasted all of four seconds before he was ready to get back to the action. :-)

Collin is a deep thinker, insanely creative, and smart as a whip.  He remembers the most random details, notices when something small changes, and makes up the most interesting and elaborate pretend-play circumstances.  He doesn't skip steps (nor does he let us skip steps!) in a process he's used to, and he likes things just so.  At the same time as being routine and liking predictability, he's incredibly flexible and we can take him anywhere to do anything.  An interesting (and awesome!) mix, this kiddo is!

Collin talks almost constantly.  He narrates his own activities and the actions of others, talks to himself while he plays independently, and loves to point out the things that he notices.  He's pretty persistent about repeating phrases until we affirm what he said, so the generic "Oh really? Wow!" response doesn't work for him (not that it really ever has, but it definitely doesn't now).  He speaks in really long phrases, and he's getting the hang of speaking in first person and using possessive pronouns.

Articulation is still tricky for Collin, but he's making really great improvements.  Four months ago he had ending sounds on <5 -="" 50="" :-="" a="" ago="" ah-din="" ah="" around="" as="" beginning="" better.="" better="" big="" but="" calling="" days="" dooper.="" for="" he="" helps="" him="" himself="" instead="" is="" lot="" made="" nbsp="" now.="" now="" of="" ollin="" other="" p="" people="" probably="" refers="" s="" said="" since="" switch="" t="" the="" three="" time="" to="" understand="" ust="" what="" which="" words="">

Our sweet Collin is a total love bug, hilarious, and such a precious gift.  We love you, cool dude!

dear baby: 26 weeks

Lovely Lauren,

At 26 weeks, you're around 14 inches long and weigh 1+2/3 pounds.  Your ears are sensitive enough to notice Daddy's voice now, and you're practicing breathing by inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid.  Your eyes are starting to open and your brain is sophisticated enough that you'd move toward light if it was shining on my belly.  Your sucking reflex is strong enough to support thumb-sucking now, but thumb sucking is just one of 70+ reflexes you'll have by the time you're born.

I got to see you via ultrasound again this week!  You've been pretty sweet during ultrasounds so far, sleeping snugly with your hands covering your face.  Unfortunately we're trying to get good pictures of your face, which doesn't work while you're covering it.  Perhaps I can schedule my next ultrasound at 10pm so we can guarantee you'll be busy moving around! :-)

Three more months until we get to meet you!

Last night Collin was "jumping on his trampoline" (aka his crib!) and then he and Daddy started teasing each other by throwing the stuffed animals and blankets in and out.

He thought it was pretty funny.

Last night, Collin spontaneously figured out how to do a perfect somersault.

Collin's bobcat

One of Collin's favorite things about Daddy's work is helping drive the Bobcat.

It's serious work, obviously!

dear baby: 25 weeks

Precious girl,

At 25 weeks, you're about 13.5 inches long and weigh 1.5 pounds!  In the process of accumulating fat, your wrinkled skin is smoothing out and your features are filling in.  Your nostrils are starting to open and your vocal chords are ready to roar, though it's ok if you decide to be a quiet baby. :-)  Capillaries are forming under your skin which means it's starting to develop a pink hue, and your hair is getting pigment as well.

You squirm like crazy and your movements are visible from the outside.  Keep moving and growing, sweet love!

Collin saw his first "ssssnate" yesterday!  He held my hand the whole time, but was very interested in watching the snake stick out his tongue.

Collin's microphone

Collin found a microphone in the yard and sang his heart out. :-)

Jeep rider

One of Collin's new evening hobbies is driving Daddy's Jeep.  He likes to stand on the driver seat and "drive" - pull levers, turn the wheel, etc., while the Jeep is off.

His real favorite?  Buckling in the passenger seat for a cruise down the driveway.

Collin was in a lounging mood tonight.

He relaxed on the deck while eating a pre-dinner snack

and lounged on Daddy for story time before bed.

All the sunshine must put him in a chilled-out mood!

park fun

Collin invited a few friends to the park this week.  He and I were the first to arrive and had the whole place to ourselves for at least 20 minutes.

He made the rounds and checked everything out while he could!

And then our friends came!  Here, Collin is holding hands with Hatley, who is leading him on some fun adventure.

Abbie sat on the bench, so Collin had to join her.  He loves her a lot.

We're so happy to spend our days outside!

Fremont family photos: April 2013

We had a fun family photo session a couple weeks ago.

We love capturing memories with our sweet little man!
