The beautiful bundle of spunk and sass is 23 months old already! At 27 pounds and 34 inches, Lauren is small but mighty. She has 15 teeth, so we're still waiting on one canine. She wears size 2t clothing and size 5 shoes.
Our sweet girl is still pretty quiet, but this was a big month for vocabulary development. New words she's learned include: wet, dirty, cold, mower, wait, tickle, come, down, pretty, bounce, mouth, tongue, cup, apple, tree, hat, help, bike, did it!, and mine. Lauren typically says the one word she means, and then repeats it until she is understood. Luckily she is very good at answering yes/no questions, and that's what we primarily use to figure out what she needs or wants. She says no quite a lot...
Baby girl is smart! She pays careful attention to the way things work, and she's an excellent mimic of behaviors. She knows our routines and it's fun to watch her anticipate what comes next. She is quite good at following directions, and she loves to be a helper.
Dancing is still a favorite activity, and singing has been added to the list too. Lauren's favorite books are the ones that are lyrics to songs (You Are My Sunshine, Twinkle Twinkle, Baa Baa Black Sheep, etc.), and it's precious to listen to her hum along. Speaking of precious, Lauren sings to her babies and she rocks them!
Lauren is a natural mama. She is really gentle with her babies and makes sure they follow the same routines as her. When it's time for a baby to go to bed, she spreads the blanket out, gets baby all wrapped up tight, kisses baby's head, and gently puts baby into the bed. She says "baby" in the tiniest, sweetest voice, full of affection for every baby (real or doll) that she comes into contact with.
Busy and very physical, Lauren keeps up with the big kiddos pretty well. She loves to run, and she carefully copies big kid tricks. Sometimes she'll mimic something that doesn't make sense, like ducking underneath a beam that's two feet above her head, but she insists on copying exactly! Lauren likes to play chase, and she also really enjoys hide & seek. This month she can consistently climb onto the couch, and she also became (fairly) trustworthy sitting on a stool at the kitchen counter.
Lauren is flexible with routine, always pleasant if we wake her and easily goes with the flow if we need to push her naptime or bedtime later than usual. She's smart about sleep - sleeping in tomorrow after she stays up late today. Sleeping is still her favorite thing to do, and she still does 12-hour nights + 3-4 hours of an afternoon nap. In no rush to get out of her crib, Lauren loves to roll around and sing to her babies for awhile after she wakes up.
Lauren is a ray of sunshine, and we are so grateful for the joy that she brings to our family. We pray her infectious spunk would always brighten the lives of the people lucky enough to spend time with her. It's a wonderful life!

Bikes are Collin's thing right now. He's been spending a lot of time on his bikes this summer and his riding skills have developed tremendously.
Lauren often gears up and then supervises while Collin rides.
Eventually though, the fun is too much to watch and she has to get in on the action.
She doesn't pedal, but she sure looks like a champ on the trike!
Meanwhile, Collin bounces back and forth between the strider and his bicycle.

We often talk about how Collin is 0-60. Emotions are that way, and development of skills seems to be that way too. He can't do it, and then all of a sudden he can.
Swimming this week has been 0-60! Naturally cautious, Collin has always loved to play at the pool but hasn't ever loved getting his face wet and certainly hasn't ever gone underwater "by purpose." Until this week.
Wednesday he experimented with plugging his nose and putting his face into the water.
(Lauren's super busy trying to keep up!)
Thursday he decided to try plugging his nose and putting his whole body under water.
Today, Friday, he said, "If I wasn't plugging my nose, I could use my arms to swim."
And so, just like that, he swims!

It's hard to see a resemblance between Collin and Lauren because they're such unique individuals, but I think this pair of pictures shows that our kiddos look alike...

Collin Cooper was super excited to help at Festival in the Park this year. He took charge of laying out taco shells to thaw
and putting pita shells on the grill.
"Mostly what I do is just chuck 'em. I can just chuck 'em right onto the grill!"
After a long weekend of being a [part-time] helper, dude was wiped out! He fell asleep on the drive home.
Lauren Kate, meanwhile, stayed fresh all weekend because she came home for naps every day.
Our kiddos are pretty awesome at going with the flow of our crazy life!
